- Tirzepatide
Tirzepatide combines the effects of GIP and GLP-1, both incretin hormones. These hormones are released in response to food intake and stimulate pancreatic beta cells to secrete insulin. GIP also plays a role in nutrient and energy metabolism, while GLP-1 has additional effects such as delaying gastric emptying and suppressing appetite, which aids in glycemic control and weight reduction.Week | Dose of Tirzepatide |
---|---|
1-4 | 2.5 mg once weekly |
5-8 | 5 mg once weekly |
9-12 | 7.5 mg once weekly (if needed) |
13+ | Up to 15 mg once weekly (if needed) |
This regimen starts with a lower dose to minimize side effects, with potential increases every 4 weeks based on the need for further glycemic control.
